S-6 Ferrari F40 Gold Win

June 30th, 2008 by tomcatuk

OK, S-6 proved to be just a bit TOO challenging for me. Maybe it’s possible to complete “properly” using the sixaxis controller, but I’m in no doubt I would have faired much better using a wheel. So…I cheated. If you want to cheat and get this one Golded, watch the video and watch the first bend. Hitting the Lexus enables you to then drift through the GT, Corvette, F40 & TVR while you are being “penalised” for hitting the Lexus. Cool - 4 places in one hit. Make the most of it if you need it as this kind of thing won’t be possible in the full release if the rumours about collision damage are true. If you find this shocking, just wait till you see what I had to do to complete the Eiger Nordwand time trials.
The other major issue with this race is the car in pole position - a Nissan GT-R Black Mask. The Black Mask is ferociously fast. If you’re not in front of it after the final chicane, you won’t catch it. Not even if you rub the engine with cheetah blood.

A-8 Ferrari F430 race - Gold win

June 28th, 2008 by tomcatuk

This is on of the races I had trouble with. Hopefully the video is enough to show just how this race can be won easily. Car settings? I don’t mess with them much, I usually (certainly did in this race) have traction control set at 1 or 2. Never higher.

S-10 Suzuka, how to beat easily

June 23rd, 2008 by tomcatuk

This race caused me a bit of trouble at first, but then a super simple way to beat it appeared. Basically, if the GT Spec II Test Car is in front on the starting grid, you’re going to have trouble catching it. Fortunately, you can change the starting grid positions. Just exit the race (you have to go right back to the main GT5 Prologue menu), and go back in and the starting line up changes. Do this TWICE and you should end up with an easy to beat lineup. When I raced this event (driving the GT Spec II Test Car, but that’s not really important here) and had the opposing GT stuck in 4th on the starting grid, I was way out in front at the end of lap 2 of this 5 lap race. The GT might be fast, but he can’t pass other cars (must be a fault in the AI). Basically, it was over in two laps as once you have the lead it’s pretty simple to hang onto it in this race. Not sure if this would be counted as a GT5 cheat - I certainly don’t think it is.

Here’s the vid - only showing first two laps as that’s all you need!

GT5 Prologue completed - all Gold, all events

June 12th, 2008 by tomcatuk

Finished…finally. Got all gold, all events in A, B, C and S class and (not that it’s that hard) every manufacturer event. If you’re reading this, you might be looking for tips on how exactly some of the events can be done. Patience….I will post the videos of the tricky events when I get time, showing all the screen data you want to see - race line guide, time, and speed (in MPH - what the blazes is the point posting vids that show KMPH?!).

Bit disappointing to find that the rumors are true - there’s NO “special” prizes for completing all events at Gold. If I’m going to give any advice in this post, it’s simply that all Golds are possible, but you really need to be committed and work at some of the events. My personal challenges were the Evo & M3 Time Trials and the S Class F40 single lap challenge. I had to do them over and over. Then over and over again. Then some more. On the F40 challenge I must have racked up 2M credits alone getting Silver trophy’s. Keep at it!

Now I’m done in single player, it’s online and GT Academy time. If you see me, say hi.
